For staff: Roehampton programmes
Do not forward this page otside the QAHE staff community.
Students and staff have access to two library services.
The University of Roehampton limits access to its subscriptions according to the publishers' licence permissions. Only the resources in LibGuides should be promoted to our students:
Note: the LibGuide for business programmes has resources relevant to the BSc Computing Technologies as well, e.g. the Business Sources Premier database.
QAHE students can visit and study at the main university library. However, books can only be borrowed from the QAHE Libraries.
Access the catalogue for ebooks and printed textbooks, reading lists, guides, library sessions and 1:1 support here. Address to share: library.qahighereducation.com/roehampton
For the BSc Computing Technologies programme, almost all textbooks are available on VLeBooks. Also, the Computers and Applied Sciences Complete database is available. For access details, please see the Library page on Moodle.
Username (normally, in the format: qa-firstname.lastname) and password are provided by the QAHE Quality team (Maddy Lee). For students, access details are emailed to the personal address upon enrollment with the university. Address to share: partnerships.moodle.roehampton.ac.uk.
OpenAthens (access management system)
Username (normally, in the format: firstname.lastname@example.org). The password is the same as for Moodle. QAHE staff do not have access to university email; the email address is used only as an OpenAthens username.
For students, their university email address is their OpenAthens username too; the password is the same as for Moodle.
VLeBooks (QAHE ebook library)
To log in, use the QA's Office 365 login if you already have it. Alternatively, use qahigher for the Organisation ID; your corporate email address for the username; and QAHEstaff for the password. Guide
Students use qa followed by their student number (e.g. qas00054321) for the username, and Qa followed by their DOB (e.g. Qa29121998) for the password. Address to share: vlebooks.com.
Trade publications are a valuable source of practitioners' experience and knowledge. They are different to scholarly publications. Some are available on open access: use Google or similar. For the paid-for publications, use the Business Source Premier database: after searching, limit the results with the Source Types filter.
Market data and research
Market research, data and statistics is often published (by governments, NGOs etc.) on open access - use Google or similar; see also Open access.
A lot of market research is behind a paywall. There is no single aggregator or tool to search for all market research. Use each electronic resource one by one depending on your objectives. Business Source Premier and Mintel are listed in LibGuides.
Academic research is published in scholarly (or peer-revewed) journals, conference papers and monographs. The most commonly used search tool for academic research is Google Scholar. For the paid-for content, use Business Source Premier, Emerald and other databases listed in LibGuides.
