FAME
FAME (Financial Analysis Made Easy) database provides access to 10 years of financial data, including balance sheets, profit and loss accounts and ratios, for UK & Republic of Ireland companies.
Finding data for one company
If you know what company you want to research, type its name at the top of the screen.
Click on the name of the company you require to access the report for the company.
The Complete Book at the right-hand side of the screen provides access to the full details and data. Switch to the Standard Book to focus on more limited, most-used options.
The initial screen gives Key Information about the company.
Click on Financials to access balance sheets, profit & loss, accounts, cash flow statements, ratios and other information.
Choose Profit & Loss account, then Go to Financial worksheet for a spreadsheet of all financial data.
Select Excel to export the data into a spreadsheet. It can also be emailed to your address.
Under Financials, several graphs of individual variables (or indices of several variables) over time can be produced.
Peer Comparison allows to quickly compare the company with similar businesses.
Saving and exporting
Choose Actions to export the company report as a Word, Excel, or PDF document.
Clearing the search
To clear the search and start from scratch, select Search, then delete all the selected companies from the list.
Creating a list of companies
FAME allows you to create a list of companies according to various criteria. For example, a list of companies engaged in the same sort of activities; from the same region; with a certain turnover etc.
For that, return to the Search page and select Add a search step.
To select companies from the same industry, select Activities and industry, then use one of the classifications (SIC etc.) or a free text description.
In this example, Manufacturing of textiles was selected.
Select other criteria as required, e.g. Location (in this example, a County was selected, then - Leicestershire).
The whole search in this example shows all active textile manufacturing businesses based in Leicestershire.
Click View results. Safe in your account, export into an Excel file or adjust the criteria further.

A set of Tools allows you to analyse the list of companies in various ways:
In this example, a Peer analysis of the Key financials is applied to the three companies - Urgo, Fashion Fabric Transprinters and B.H.M. Knitwear - selected previously (see a screenshot above).
The same data can be expressed in graphs and exported into Excel.
