Library for Solent University students

Textbooks are a good starting point for researching new topics or subject areas.

Reading lists give an idea of relevant textbooks for every module.

Library catalogues show all textbooks in the library:

Trade publications

Trade publications are a valuable source of practitioners' experience and applied knowledge. They are different to scholarly publications. Some are available on open access: use Google or similar. For some paid-for publications, use the ProQuest Business & ProQuest Technology Collection databases.

For help with resource evaluation and identifying whether a source is suitable to use, see Evaluating Sources.

For help with referencing, see Referencing. Request a session with a librarian or ACE team if you need support.

Scholarly (academic) publications

Academic research is published in scholarly (or peer-reviewed) journals, conference papers and monographs. The most commonly used search tool for academic research is Google Scholar. To tell Google you have access to the university subscriptions, go to Library links - search for Solent - tick Solent University - Save. Now search for your topic.
