Google Scholar is an academic search engine that searches scholarly articles in a simple way. So, if your research is not about getting quick ideas or information, and if it’s about scholarly research, you can use Google Scholar to supplement your institution databases and get review articles.
Gain access to google scholar through your search engine. You can also access it through QAHE Portal
Use google scholar to search for reviewed articles. Google scholar complements search in your institutional
databases. Please do not concentrate on Google Scholar for all your research.
Linking option to your University e-resources
Start by going to the Hamburger menu icon (3 brief horizontal lines) at the upper left-hand side of the page.
Click it and go to Setting. Select library links ; start typing “Solent University” Click search. Tick the open boxes with the descriptor of Solent University, then move down to Save.
What happens when you link
Google Scholar is linked to your university e- resources, and you can have full access to search results from google scholar
The resources you are using are authenticated and can be trusted.
Go back to the hamburger menu icon at the left-hand side of Google Scholar, click and select the advanced search option. Pay attention to the search box instructions:
a. with all of the words
b. with at least one of the word
c. with the exact phrase
with all of the words
Here, pick out the keywords or concepts that is significant to your search and input them in the search box.
Example
Topic: Information behavior of International students in UK Higher education
Keywords and how to present in advanced search: Information behavior, International students, Higher education,UK
Repeat the above example under "with at least one of the word" and remember to always use your comma to separate keywords. You can use the search box for "exact phrase " where you intend doing phrase search, otherwise, the two search boxes above suffices. Then go down to the date range box, input your desired date range and and click "search".
You can create your library to organize your search results for reading at your convenient time. Go to “My Library” by clicking the star under each search result. This takes you to where you can create and name your folder, then save selected results. Subsequently you can just keep clicking the star and saving under the folder name.
When ready to read your saved resources, just click "my library" and then click the folder name.
